Works well enough with original Sega Genesis – I have an original Sega Genesis that I did the S-video hack a while back. My new TV does not have S-video, so I bought this hoping it would be good enough. It was, surprisingly, good enough! Ok, it’s not as sharp as the S-video picture, it looks exactly like the old composite blurry-around-the-edges original look. Problem with the s-video is the stretching of the screen to fill the 16:9 space where this keeps the old aspect ratio closer to 4:3. Not perfect, but close enough. Only issue I have, and this may be related to the Sega output, is that on startup after about 45 seconds, the screen goes blank for 2 seconds, then comes back. Not huge, but it’s there. For $15, this is worth avoiding busting out the soldering iron and hacking my already-hacked vintage game console…

Best fix for older Smart TVs – My Insignia TV is an older model TV with 3 HDMI, 1 AV, and a USB port. I used this converter to connect my DVD player and it works like a charm – just remember to use both HDMI and USB cables to set it up. Now I can leave my WII and DVD players connected without swapping cables.

Great for legacy Nintendo box – My wife is very protective of allowing my kids to play video games. She won’t allow the newer FPS games or ones with a lot of violence, so she picked up an old Nintendo gaming system off eBay. The OLD Nintendo with Super Mario and Duck Hunt. Yeah, that one! We had it hooked up to an older TV, but that TV bit the dust, and the game never had sound. When I replaced the TV, the new one didn’t have RCA plugs…and why would it? It’s 2022! So, off to Amazon to save the day. Plugged this in and I was a hero. It now has sound, which is great for the kids, but bad for Dad. Great box, seems to display a decent picture even though the TV is 4k and the video game console …. isn’t. Can’t recommend it enough if you’re in my situation. Solid.
