Good value but bad quality control. – It is a very light weight little indoor antenna. I gave it 4 stars because it is a lot for the price. I would expect to pay almost as much just to buy the extension cable that is included. However, the quality control was bad. The telescoping antennas screw into the two threaded female receptacles on the dipole center. One of those two female threads was so bad that it was not possible to screw in any of the four antenna sections provided. I solved the problem by carefully re-tapping the bad thread with a 10-32 tap.

Watch out for shorts – Took my quite a while to figure out why reception was so bad: the antenna was shorted at the base of the T which holds the whips. One of the strands of the shield was contacting the core conductor… the assembler wasn’t careful enough. Easy to fix once the problem was identified.

The official antenna set for RTL-SDR! – This is in fact the recommended antenna set for the RTL-SDR Blog SDR device. This is what you should be using to start your journey of learning SDR’s. It includes 2 long antennas & 2 short antennas, the dipole antenna base with suction cup attachment, tripod & RG174 extension cable. This will be good for basic RF comms like FM, AM, and anything within 70-1030MHz range. So it doesn’t do HF.

This Antenna Is Great For RTL-SDR and Portable Digital Televisions and Radios – This came in very handy for an extra antenna that is better than the ones I receive that come with a RTL-SDR dongle such as the small with a magnet mount. This antenna helps improve FM-VHF-UHF reception, and also the small elements are handy as well for signals that are in the UHF range that extend up to a shorter length. This antenna kit can be used with a portable TV for better digital VHF reception. It’s great for travel, and it’s easy to store away in your bag for later use. It’s possible that if you use an external RF pre amplifier for to boost reception that will help make this portable antenna useful for HF (Shortwave) radio reception and MW reception. These antennas are great for many uses just as long as you use the right SMA adapters.

Good VHF/UHF antenna – This antenna kit works very well. I have several I use for all around VHF/UHF reception on Airspy devices at three locations. The kit simplifies setup and allows for easy placement, whether on a window or anywhere else in your house.

Terrible construction but good starter kit for the price. – I bought this kit to get my RTL-SDR APRS receiver going ASAP. For the price, it’s pretty good, but be aware the construction is terrible and it’s only really to get you off the ground until you find better hardware. If you’re an experienced ham that already has hardware, avoid this. But if you need something right away and are aware of the flimsiness of the hardware, it will do the job.
