10 reviews for Logitech – Harmony 665 10-Device Universal Remote

– This is more a review of Amazon’s Renewed Scheme than the remote itself — saying that, this is my second Logitech remote (the first, a Logitech 555, finally started to conk out after 13 years faithful service) and the new remote took less than 20 minutes to program (including reprogramming some of the buttons), and it works like a dream.

Just about there – I came from the Universal Remote Control family (MX700) to be exact. That remote took some serious effort to get all the “push through” devices and timing just right. But it was worth it. After dealing with all the macros from previous “universal remotes” the MX700 seemed like a dream. However, I always thought it should be easier and then Logitech came up with this beauty. So easy to get going I didn’t mind doing it the third time. Which I needed to do and here is why… I am used to having available all the commands at any screen. So I can control the lights in any “activity”. And when I first created all me activities I failed to include the light controller in most of them because I don’t think of controlling the lights when turning on the TV. So do yourself a favor: add lighting devices to all activities because you will want access to those commands in all your activities. Also, I was used to having a home screen which you could access certain codes even when not doing ANY activity. But it appears the Logitech is pretty deaf to my requests until I chose a device or activity. Oh well. So I can’t just pick up my remote to switch on lights without chasing the light controller device. These are really nit picky things because I LOVE this remote. It is clean, intuitive for the most part. I love the scrolling screen where I can customize any command. Really quite easy to program (in comparison my old MX700). I am getting used to the charging dock. Because I don’t get it on there most days, I appreciate the battery indicator that reminds me to place it on the charger. My 15 year old can control everything just fine with it – took him no time at all to figure it out. My wife is less compliant because she says the screen is too touchy. And I agree with her, I just take the extra second to watch how I handle it. Even so, rarely, I will touch the screen and the complete set up will switch something. That always irks me, but it is worth it to me to train myself better. Last word: Blasters are wonderful – I purchased an extra one for the TV. Why? the time for the remote to run through it’s commands took too long and my family was swinging the remote around before the devices were all set up. Do yourself a favor and set up a blaster for all devices. The two included ones are in my picture in the front facing the components. Flawless. All in all a great product, just not quite there in terms of what I imagine a universal remote could be.

Super cool. multi-function universal remote-655 – I picked up 2 of these, renewed units. Both look to be brand new, though the brand new batteries didn’t work. Setup is reasonably intuitive but there is a bit of a learning curve. My main viewing area consists of a TV, surround sound amplifier, a second amplifier, ROKU, satellite receiver and a seldom used Blu-Ray player. One button powers up everything needed for a particular task. But be PATIENT! Leave the remove aimed at the devices, as it’s a sequential remote signal. Same at power off. One button does the trick but be PATIENT! Give it time to perform the signal sequence.

– Personally, I found this a very easy item to set up. First you need to get the model numbers of all the devices you wish to control. Then install the Logitech app on your computer and connect the remote using the provided USB cable to your PC. The app then sets up the device once you have input the related device details.(In my case it controls a Panasonic TV, SumVision media streamer, Cambridge Audio Hifi, SkyQ satellite box and a Polaroid DVD player) Once set up with the PC you can control devices individually or as part of an activity, such as ‘watch tv’ or ‘listen to music’. Should you wish to add what an original device remote control button did, you can easily add that function to the Logitech remote.

– The one-star rating is for this specific transaction not the Harmony 665 itself, which is extremely good. I bought this refurbished remote to replace a worn out Harmony 600 so that I could copy the programmed sequences from the old model to the new one without having to waste a few hours programming it from scratch – which is straightforward but a bit of a pain. However, when I plugged the refurbished 665 into my computer and opened up the MyHarmony software I received a message that “THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN DISABLED AND CAN NO LONGER BE SYNCHRONISED OR SET UP.” I contacted Logitech who told me that it meant that the unit had previously been reported as faulty and so was now locked and couldn’t be used, programmed or synchronised. So I returned it to Amazon for a refund. No problem. I then bought a similar unit from a popular online auction site, but on receiving the confirmation email I realised that it was being sold by the same seller! Expecting the worst, when the new one arrived I plugged it into my Mac, opened up the My Harmony software … and it all worked perfectly, taking a bout two minutes to copy data I’d programmed for the old remote. My guess would be that refurbished sellers have a way of unlocking locked units and this time someone forgot to do it. The remote I bought elsewhere from the same seller works perfectly, so, on balance, I’d say you could buy with a degree of confidence – especially since Amazon’s returns policy is generally good. But the hassle was nevertheless annoying.
